It is very rare for a story that involves hazardous conditions to have a positive, feel-good ending — but this one manages to accomplish feat quite easily.
A video of a young girl falling out of her bedroom window went viral recently, after the falling child was caught by a bus driver waiting underneath her, saving her life.
The 7-year-old girl is autistic and lives in New York City. Her mother thought she was sleeping, but instead she climbed out onto a new air conditioner hanging from her window. The girl’s mother was tending to her son in another room as this all happened.
While on the air conditioner, the 7-year-old began to dance, unaware of the peril she was in. The bus driver knew immediately that something wasn’t right and positioned himself underneath the air conditioner.
When the girl fell, he was in the right place at the right time, catching the 7-year-old who only suffered minor injuries. The bus driver suffered tendon damage in his hand from catching the young girl. His heroic effort likely saved the girl’s life, as she fell three stories before being caught by the bus driver.
No charges are being filed in the incredible incident, but it does make you wonder about the safety of the building. How could a 7-year-old autistic girl so easily have opened the window and climbed onto the air conditioner? Should a more thorough inspection be done to ensure that the child’s building is compliant with safety regulations?
