A former X-Factor contestant from Highland Beach, Florida has been arrested on a drunk driving charge after she crashed her car into another vehicle before continuing down the road and barreling into a retaining wall.
The 22-year-old allegedly caused the accident, though her intoxication would put her in a difficult situation regardless. Arresting officers measured her blood alcohol level twice after the DUI arrest, with both tests coming back grossly positive. She had BAC levels of 0.288 and 0.275, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08. In addition, she failed a field sobriety test.
There was little information available about the people in the other car, but usually accidents that involve a drunk driver involve moderate or serious injuries. Since the intoxicated and obviously negligent driver has little inhibition behind the wheel, they are far more likely to crash into something without reacting or applying the brakes. These impacts are very violent and can cause severe injuries.
But even when the impact is minor, car accident victims can sometimes suffer from injuries that are not apparent until well after the accident. Whiplash can arise after the wreck, while a brain injury or concussion may not be noticeable (or even checked out) until days after the accident.
This is why it is crucial to always take any medical care that is offered to you at the scene of the accident. You may want to tough it out; but receiving that care will not only get you on the path to recovery quicker, it will also document your injuries for any personal injury lawsuit you may pursue — and especially important point when negligence, like in a DUI accident, is found.
