6-year-old boy victimized by reckless driver in Pompano Beach

Many people in a Pompano Beach neighborhood noticed a trend growing in their area recently – street racing. The reckless and dangerous activity puts so many people at risk of serious injury. Having powerful cars that can reach incredible speeds is one thing, but to use them in such a manner in a neighborhood not meant to handle high speeds is negligent.

One 6-year-old boy suffered the consequences of a negligent driver earlier this week. A 28-year-old man seemingly sped down the boy’s street and collided with another vehicle. The crash caused both cars to violently spin, with the 28-year-old’s vehicle ultimately hitting the 6-year-old who was riding his scooter. The young boy was hospitalized with catastrophic injuries that will threaten his life.

The boy’s father witnessed the accident. “He flew down the street and ran a stop sign,” he said, adding that he was praying for his son to recover from his serious injuries.
Investigators did not provide details, but considering the eyewitness account it sounds like the 28-year-old was irresponsible behind the wheel and caused the crash due to this recklessness. He could be held liable for the injuries that put the 6-year-old in such a critical condition as well as any injuries suffered by the driver and passengers of the other car.

Those at fault in a reckless car accident can be legally pursued for medical expenses and pain and suffering experienced by the victims.

Neighbors near the scene expressed their safety concerns regarding the rise in street racing. “This is not a speedway, this is a residential neighborhood and there are kids out, so everybody needs to take their time and slow down,” one woman said.
